Pimpri-Chinchwad is set to launch Maharashtra’s first Electric Rapid Transit System (e-RTS) pilot project, with the PCMC approving ₹85 lakh to prepare its Detailed Project Report (DPR). Presented to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the proposal features a 17-km corridor connecting Godown Chowk to Wakad via major junctions like Auto Cluster and Kalewadi Phata, seamlessly linking key growth hubs to regional highways and BRT routes. Operating like a road-based metro, the eco-friendly system will feature high-capacity, low-floor electric vehicles holding up to 240 passengers—complete with AC and Wi-Fi—to deliver a quiet, reliable, and sustainable transit solution for the expanding region.
